The introduction of innovative and emerging technology at SCC allows students to push beyond the limits of computer screens, allowing interactive and immersive learning experiences. SCC’s newest technology, a hologram from Proto, provides experiential learning through 3-D, interactive imaging.

The new holograms, one full-size (seven-foot), and three tabletop-size (two-foot), engage students in new ways. The technology includes programs with an interactive, 3-D version of a human heart and brain that can be used in classrooms where students learn science and healthcare. It also offers 3-D games that promote logical thinking, and the ability to bring in guest speakers from around the world to interact with students live.

SCC’s president, Barbara Kavalier, Ph.D., introduced the technology at the college’s all-employee meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19, using a recording of herself in the hologram, to demonstrate its  capabilities and inspire faculty and staff to imagine new ways to engage students in learning.

“It is important we embrace new technology, use it in innovative and engaging ways, and make it available to students in our community,” said Kavalier. “We are excited to introduce holograms as a new   technology focused on helping our students to learn and become successful.”
